The Hindu festival of  Navarathri takes place over nine nights in October.  To celebrate Dance Ihayami is hosting a day of  dance, food and tradition and welcoming all those from around Leith to join them.

The event takes place at the Drill Hall on Dalmeny Street between 10am and 5pm on Sunday 17th October and features a varied programme.  The event begins with Pooja or worship.  A space will be dedicated to  Goddess Saraswathi and offerings will be made in the form of flowers, fruits, anklets and instruments.  Many of  the students will perform dance, play instruments and demonstrate martial arts.

From 10.30am families are invited to a workshop lead by Barbera Middleton where, through making masks they can discover characters from the Sanskrit epic,  Ramayana.

The main attraction begins at 3pm with a musical and dance performance featuring over 100 dancers both professional and student.

The event is free and the cafe will be serving food throughout the day.
